For a variety of reasons, I've decided to hop on the 30 Days Meme bandwagon. Mostly I will be using the prompts as an excuse to write mini-essays or pieces of microfiction. (In my mind, nanofiction goes up to about 10-20 words, microfiction to about 100-200, and flash fiction 1000-2000). Following what is now standard practice, I will deluge-post the first five days today, then continue at one a day for the rest of the month.

Day 01 - Your favorite song
I have a variety of favorite songs, but for a cold grey day like this, Regina Spektor's "Eet" is perfect.

Day 02 - Your favorite movie
Le Fabuleux Déstin d'Amélie Poulin, dir. Jean-Pierre Jeunet
Trailer )
This movie epitomizes the way I have cultivated my worldview. One day with only one entry will be an essay about the magic of the mundane.

Day 03 - Your favorite television program
Fox's House. Consistent writing, brilliant acting and actual attention paid to the medicine. This is one of two shows I can watch at any time; the other is Will & Grace.

Day 04 - Your favorite book
I think that having a favorite book is limiting. I enjoy a variety of genres and styles. Three books that have had a large impact on my own writing are Neil Gaiman's American Gods, Garth Nix's Sabriel, and Frank Herbert's Dune.

Day 05 - Your favorite quote
"There is a pleasure in the pathless woods
There is a rapture in the lonely shore
There is society where none intrudes
By the deep sea and music in its roar;
I love not man the less, but nature more."
—George Gordon, Lord Byron
